Upcoming Bluetooth Version 4 to Enhance Battery Power Usage

The Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG) announced the adoption of low-power Bluetooth wireless technology, which is the distinctive feature of the Bluetooth Core Specification Version 4.0. This enhancement to the Bluetooth Core Specification allows two types of implementation, dual-mode and single mode. In a dual-mode application, the Bluetooth functionality into an existing low energy Bluetooth Classic controller integrated. The resulting architecture shares of most of the existing Radio Classic Bluetooth technology and functionality resulting in a minimal cost to increase the Classic Bluetooth technology compared.
“With today’s announcement of the race is on the product designer, was the first to market,” said Michael Foley, Ph.D., executive director of the Bluetooth SIG. “Bluetooth low-power modules for all kinds of new products can now be qualified – this is an important step towards our goal of creating new markets with Bluetooth wireless technology. For example, the Continua Health Alliance has already selected Bluetooth low energy technology as transport medium for the next version of its guidelines. ”
