Garmin zumo 660 Review

If you drive a motorcycle at speed, to show mirrors a card is not exactly a choice – it makes no wonder some of the traditional adventure trips and long distance drivers with GPS devices. The Garmin Zumo 660 specifically designed for motorcycles, so I took a test unit with European maps to Italy for a 570 miles trip from Bologna to Florence, Rome, Cortona and back loaded, all aboard the Ducati Sport Classic GT1000 Touring.

, I did not know hard wire the GPS device, the bike on the electrical system, but on battery, and use a U-shaped bracket that mounts to the handlebar – that was easy enough. Battery life is advertised as 5 hours, I played it safe and shut the device during long stretches on the highway. The setup was not ideal, but it did keep me from running the juice over the six days of riding, decide to charge the device stay in my hotel room.

The zumo 660 has lots of additional features such as Bluetooth, picture viewer and NAVTEQ Traffic (for a fee of $ 49), but I thought it was just on this trip, primarily using it for turn-by-turn directions. Although there has been negative rumors about the 660 previous software versions, my tester came loaded with version 3.30. The interface has worked well, although sometimes it was a ranged touch screen input and the system of recognizing the input. Fast input register sometimes took a few moments, but it was possible to type quickly and let the system catch up to a hard reset, seemed to improve performance.

Once a destination is entered, the screen enough homes to conveniently display a generous landscape view of the map, with information including the operations vehicle speed and posted speed limits (if available), official local time, and one customizable field display the distance may or time until the next section, or even sea level. A motorcycle-Defaults icon on the screen, which can be changed to a variety of different vehicles (including some innovations like a NASCAR race car, a dirt bike, or other current trips, which can be downloaded from Garmin’s website.)

Although I only scratched the surface of its functionality led the Garmin zumo 660 basic functions quite well. It provided clear, easy directions included graphics showing everything from Lane exit information to the diagrams of roundabouts and even 3-D buildings to read. Nearby attractions, restaurants and gas stations were set up easily. And if you see something nostalgic, the 660 may have made show or download maps and statistics of Travel.

My experience testing the zumo 660 was generally positive – hence this review is 3.5 out of 5 stars – but I also wanted the opportunity for further investigation, so I extended the loan product for mounting in the inbound Triumph Bonneville allow long-term tester. So consider this a first report of the Garmin zumo 660, with more to come!
