Types of Computer RAM

If the CPU is your computer as the “brains”, then RAM would be the spine that connects the brain with the rest of the body. Random Access Memory (RAM) is what your computer is running multiple programs simultaneously, and what does your CPU what memory available. Not all computer RAM is created equal, as the nature and speed of RAM in their speed and functionality of many.

SDRAM

SDRAM stands for Synchronous Dynamic Random Access Memory “and can run at speeds of up to 133 megahertz per second. SDRAM is different from other RAM synchronized due to the interface. While other types of RAM will appeal based on what information is passed along control inputs, synchronized SDRAM shared with your computer’s system bus runs at the same time.

DDR SDRAM

Double Data Rate (DDR) SDRAM memory is in essence, that twice as fast. This is done by manipulating the computer’s clock to increase in a more efficient way to improve the speed and functionality. It achieves this through the use of both falling and rising ends of the clock signal. DDR Ram works with speeds of up to 333 megahertz. DDR SDRAM was developed in June 2000 and was considered revolutionary at the beginning.

DDR2 SDRAM

DDR2 SDRAM operates on the same principles as DDR SDRAM, but in a more efficient manner. The DDR2-RAM works and achieve at higher speeds through the manipulation of memory rate speeds to a higher efficiency. DDR2 RAM can speed up to 400 megahertz or higher to achieve, and was created in June 2003.

DRAM

Dynamic Random Access Memory (DRAM) works by ever-changing information stored in their databases. If the information may not always be erased or updated data corruption. This problem was used by the system of capacitors in the DRAM system. The capacitors are constantly losing energy, which is what requires the constant refreshing.

RDRAM

Rambus Dynamic Random Access Memory (RDRAM) has created a new technology of DRAM RDRAM Rambus Inc. differs from other types of DRAM due to its higher bandwidth, which can potentially higher speeds it will run. This is achieved through manipulation of the pipeline are transmitted through the data. A side effect of this is increased latency in the speed at which data travels.
