Motorola Plans to Split Into Two Separate Companies in Q1 2011

Speculation has been flying around for at least a year and a half now that Motorola was planning on selling two of its mobile division or split it off into a separate publicly traded company with the same Motorola branding. Finally, today we have word that Motorola intends to do, and it will happen this time next year.

Through an official press release and webcast announced today, Motorola will officially separated into two independent public companies: one being the Mobile Devices and Home Economics Unit, and the other will focus on Enterprise Mobility Solutions and Networks businesses.

What will the enterprise companies, specifically? Ultimately, it is offers a wide portfolio of products such as mobile computing, wireless network infrastructure, two-way radios, public safety and safe systems. That’s a handful!

Both companies will use the Motorola brand, not too many details yet available on how this will work, but the PR does not mention that only one of the companies actually own the brand can, and this honor is the Mobile Devices business and home go to , which in turn license it royalty-free to the Enterprise business.

The Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG) announced the adoption of low-power Bluetooth wireless technology, which is the distinctive feature of the Bluetooth Core Specification Version 4.0. This enhancement to the Bluetooth Core Specification allows two types of implementation, dual-mode and single mode. In a dual-mode application, the Bluetooth functionality into an existing low energy Bluetooth Classic controller integrated. The resulting architecture shares of most of the existing Radio Classic Bluetooth technology and functionality resulting in a minimal cost to increase the Classic Bluetooth technology compared.
